Rachel Marisa LaBine (born 1987, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, U.S.) is an interdisciplinary artist living in New York City. Her work moves within the tension between two-dimensional images and embodied experience. In painting, installation, performance, and writing, she studies the reciprocal shapes of attention, connection, and escapism in a world that is increasingly represented, yet remains unknowable. Extending lineages of feminist abstraction, surrealism, experimental film, and social science fiction, her work evokes an emotive elsewhere, animated by holding scale, legibility, and longing in a slippery grip.
